Answers to Frequently Asked Questions...

1.  What is Web Hosting?  Web hosting is a service that provides the tools, hardware, and internet connection necessary to make a website accessible on the Internet. Your website files need a place to "live" on the Internet. Web hosting creates the home your website needs.

2.  What exactly is a domain name?  A domain name is simply a root website address. An example would be: everetthosting.com. To see if your desired domain name is available, do a domain check. By having your own domain name your website address and email addresses will be shorter and easier to remember. A website with its own domain name appears much more professional than one hosted under an ISP's domain.

3.  Do I have to pay extra for my domain name?  Yes, you must purchase a domain name if you do not already have one. You may purchase it on your own, or have us do it. We will register .com, .net, .org, .info, and .us domains for $15 a year.

4.  If I have you register my domain name, will you properly register it with me as the owner?
Yes, of course. Some web hosts register domains in their own name. So essentially the web host owns your domain name and not you. Be careful! This can cause a lot of problems.

5.  Can I transfer my existing domain name to your servers?  Yes. There is no charge to do this and we will do what we can to help.

6.  Regarding Email Accounts, what are POP3 email accounts?  They are simply regular email accounts that may be used under your domain. You can have email addresses in the form yours@yourdomain.com. They are setup and accessed just like a regular email account you get with an ISP. They may also be setup to forward mail to an alternate email address.

7.  What are CGI scripts?  CGI scripts are small programs that help to automate your website. They are used for page counters, filling out order forms, pull down redirect menus, guest books, and a number of other things. One example of a cgi script in use is the domain check on this site.

8.  How do I create a website or should I have a professional do it?  One of the best programs for creating a professional website on your own is Microsoft FrontPage. It is very easy to use. You may add or have us set up FrontPage server extensions to your hosting plans at no charge. Please note, you must have a copy of FrontPage (any version) on your computer to be able to take advantage of the server extensions.  We do offer website creation and site design services. 9.  Do you offer dial-up Internet access?  No, this allows the servers to be dedicated to hosting websites without the high bandwidth demands of dial-up ISP accounts.

10.  If you don't offer dial-up Internet access, then how am I going to upload and edit my website?  You can upload your website through ftp, your web browser, or FrontPage. All you need is Internet access. Uploading via ftp is very simple.
